Spain Into Finals After Shootout Win

Spain into Finals after shootout win

Alvaro Morata scored the winning penalty as Spain beat Croatia in a dramatic UEFA Nations League semi-final shootout

Spain had taken the lead in extra-time through Morata, but Croatia equalised late on to take the game to penalties. Spain will now meet Italy in the final on Sunday.

Spain's victory was their first in a competitive match against Croatia since 2008, and it was their first victory in a penalty shootout at a major tournament since 2012. Alvaro Morata - who had been dropped from the starting line-up - scored the winning penalty.

The game was a close affair, with both sides having chances to win it in normal time. Spain had the better of the first half, but Croatia came out strongly in the second half and had a number of chances to take the lead. The game went to extra-time, and Spain finally took the lead through Morata in the 100th minute. However, Croatia equalised late on through Andrej Kramaric, and the game went to penalties.

In the shootout, Spain were perfect from the spot, with Morata scoring the winning penalty. Croatia missed two of their penalties, with Luka Modric and Marcelo Brozovic both seeing their spot-kicks saved by Unai Simon.

The victory was a great achievement for Spain, who have now reached their first Nations League final. They will now meet Italy in the final on Sunday, and will be looking to win their first major trophy since 2012.
